In what has become an annual event for the Deveau household, we went to the L.A. County Fair. This is a large fair which we enjoy every year. Our numbers are dwindling though as children become older and don't come with us any more.
The first thing we noticed this year and enjoyed was the separate entrance for homeschooling. In the past, we would enter in the long line with the other schools who were entering the fair. A sign of the times as homeschooling becomes more of a part of society. There is more of an awareness and acceptance of home-
schooling in our culture.
Every year there is a special program which stands out and we enjoy. This year it is the Genius program put on by the Fair. There were special displays of G.W. Carver, Edison, Ford, the Wright Brothers and of course Steve Jobs. Where was Bill Gates? Also, there were side educational panels of inventors.
You can't go to the fair without purchasing something, right? No, I didn't buy any deep fried food or a set of encyclopedias. I did buy a messenger bag though for only $3.00! It is just the right size for me to carry my "stuff".
A special treat was the late arrival of my oldest son to spend some time with the family at the fair. If I wasn't so worn out from walking on asphalt all day, I would have stayed longer with him.
This was a special visit to the fair especially as our children become older and the Deveau family group visiting the fair becomes smaller. Hopefully, the grand kids will visit the fair with us as a new generation starts visiting the L.A. County Fair.
